What The Future May Hold

In my journey of life so far, I have learned a lot. However, I am always learning more and wonder if I'll ever know enough. I hope that makes sense. It just seems that everytime I make a plan, something crazy is thrown in the way and my plans change and I often don't know what to do. I admit part of the problem is me, but part of the problem is change. I understand that change is the spice of life and if things don't change, they will die. I actually like change, but it is sometimes hard. I know at this stage in my life there are and will be many changes that lie ahead. Although, I'm a little nervous, I am excited for them. I don't know what the future holds for me, I just hope I will someday possess enough knowledge to make the changes a little smoother. On A Melodic Note...

So, over the last week I've been working on a story involving the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition. I haven't been able to do a lot up to this point because the competitor and host family just met for the first time tonight due to a scheduling conflict. Her portion of the competition begins Wednesday. I have interviewed her host family. They are very nice, welcoming people and they are excited to be a host for the competition for the first time. I am going to interview the family again tomorrow and also to talk to the competitor, then quickly write more and combine my two stories. My deadline is Wednesday and, unfortunately, the competitor I am following won't begin her quest for the coveted title until Wednesday night. I still plan to try and attend the recital anyway, since I have never been fortunate enough to attend in the past. I know I'm in for a real treat and am excited to hear all of the talent.A Push in the Right Direction

Everyday I come into the newsroom, they have a new and exciting task for me. I never really know what to expect. The only thing constant in the newsroom is whatever they want me to do, I know I will definitely learn something. I'm not an expert at newspaper. In fact, I hadn't really given it much thought. Through this internship, however, I have acquired quite an appreciation for this media. I love the news and I love to write, so I should have considered this long ago. I didn't plan on writing for a newspaper at all and didn't take a lot of classes in school for the genre. The staff at the Globe are really helpful and patient with me being new and still learning. I am lucky to be around such talent in the first place, then they really believe in me and allow me to do some very important things! I will admit, sometimes I am nervous and scared to write for the public. These feelings are natural when starting out with anything. I am lucky to even get the opportunity to write and just be exposed to all the talent and professionalism in the newsroom. This is certainly an experience I will never forget.Election Day

Today is the day of local elections. Here I am--interning! I'm a little embarassed to admit that, at first, I was sad that the election was tonight. You see, I have become a big fan of American Idol and was looking forward to this weeks performances, but the free pizza offer was enough to win me over! So here I am. Right now, we are just waiting for the action to begin. It's kind of weird to see the newsroom full at this time of night, but might be a good indication of how busy it can be on election night. I am new at this, so I don't really know what to expect, but looks like this might be the calm before the storm. I think my role here tonight is to help out anybody that needs it and take in as much from the experience as I can. My overseer, Dave, is so good at exposing me to as many projects as possible, for which I love and am grateful, so as always I was excited to be here--even if it meant I would miss my favorite show! It's nice to see how a real job works and it helps no matter what job I have after graduation, because it is experience and I have already written on the importance of experience! Things should be picking up in here soon and I am ready for it. I'm ready to see how a newspaper functions on an important election day!Next
