Submitting a press release
Before writing a press release or submitting the information below, consider the following questions:
- Is this newsworthy?
- Is the news of interest to "insiders" only or does it have a wider appeal?
- Is this better suited for a direct-mail piece or advertising, a letter or memo to the people involved, or an item in your company newsletter?
If a press release makes sense, consider the following suggestions:
- Write clearly and get to the point early.
- Keep your release as short as possible.
- Lead with news not advertising.
- After sending the release, follow up with a phone call or a note.
- Editors make the final decision on what is published based on a variety of factors.
