I’m a 50-year-old cancer survivor, tornado survivor and grandmother of four.
But, if I could only use one word to sum up who I am it would have to be journalist.
My career began in 1977 at The Carthage Press. My first assignment was to cover a series of dog poisonings. I began working at the Carthage bureau of The Joplin Globe in 1983 — after applying for a job there five times.
In 1993, I began my daily commute to Joplin where I worked in the features department and continued to cover the city of Webb City.
My move over to the “dark side” came about six years ago when I was named assistant city editor. I was named editor two years ago.
I love what I do and I do what I love. It’s been like that now for 32 years.
