LJ & Bowe are Out

The Chiefs have been in the news a lot this week, both good and bad news. First the good news, they won! KC earned their second win of the season by beating the Raiders on Sunday. Now that they accomplished beating the Raiders, maybe they can set their goals a little higher and get a win against a professional team. That won’t happen this week against the Steelers. Bad news for KC is Dwayne Bowe is out 4 games without pay for violating the league’s performance enhancing drugs policy. His agent says they were diet pills, very funny.

How about Larry Johnson signing with the Bengals? I like this move for the 7-2 Bengals who are currently without Cedric Benson because of injury. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain, good move and LJ might play in the playoffs this year.

Lions & Gorillas Are Done...Now What?
Monday, November 9, 2009, 10:21 AM
Missouri Southern wrapped up their football season with a loss at home against a very much-improved Fort Hays State team. The Lions finished the season with only 3 wins and although they were competitive in every game this year except the Northwest Missouri game, 3 wins is 3 wins and the Lions need to find a way to get over the hump and finish in the upper half of very good conference. I think they have a chance to do that, their entire defense will be back next year including All-American linebacker Jared Brawner who was out all year with an injury. A healthy Collin Howard will be back at QB as well.
Not sure what the future for Pitt State holds. The Gorillas suffered a losing season for the first time since 1977 and lost their season finale at Truman who hadn’t won a conference game all year. Should be an interesting off-season in Pittsburg. Is Chuck Broyles coming back as head coach? Does he stop coaching and just focus on his athletic director job? He is 2 wins away from 200 in his 20-year coaching career at Pitt State, does that mean anything? Let’s not forget that the Gorillas have been to the playoffs 15 times in his 20 years and his teams have played for a national championship 4 times winning one of them.

The Story of the Year in Missouri
Sunday, October 25, 2009, 01:11 PM
There have been some great high school football stories around the area and the state this year. I’ll tell you about the best story and I am proud to do it. It’s my alma mater, the Pacific Indians. Pacific is located around 35 miles west of St. Louis and that town has a very special team that they are very excited about. Friday night, Pacific improved their record to 7-2 by beating Union in a Class 4 district 9 game that gave Pacific an undefeated Four Rivers Conference Championship and a 2-0 district record. The Indians have assured themselves a playoff spot this season. That alone is quite an accomplishment for most teams, but there’s more to this story. This season marks the first time in 13 years that Pacific has had a winning record, and it’s the first time since 1982 that the Indians won a conference championship.

Wait, there’s more. In 2002 the Indians won their first game of the season, they didn’t win another game until the 2007 season. During that stretch, they lost 53 games in a row. Imagine losing 53 straight games! That 2007 season, they won twice and last year they got 3 victories. The man who has turned it all around is George Hinkle, an alumnus of Pacific who played defensive line in the NFL for 6 years. He is in his fourth season as head coach of the Indians and has brought that program back from the dead. Keep your eye on the progress Pacific makes this postseason, there is no better story in the state. Go Indians!

Come on Back Tony

Tony LaRussa is going to decide soon if he will stay on as the St. Louis Cardinal Manager or ride off in to the sunset after his team’s disappointing playoff departure in the first round. Listen, LaRussa needs to return, he has done a good job as the skipper in St. Louis and it’s really not his fault that the middle of his lineup couldn’t hit the ball the last month of the season. The Birds will content again for a playoff spot, and if they resign Matt Holliday, they will likely be the favorites in the NL Central. I think Tony is coming back for another shot at a title. I hear and read a lot of Cards fans criticize LaRussa and yes, he does some questionable things once in awhile but he deserves the respect of all baseball fans and right now he is he best man for the job in St. Louis.

No Rams....Again
Monday, October 19, 2009, 08:53 AM
I was all set to watch the Rams vs. Jaguars game on Sunday only to be disappointed to find that the local Fox affiliate chose to show the Giants vs. Saints game. I know that game was better, both teams undefeated going in, but Friday night on Fox14, they said that the Rams game would be on so they teased me. I am probably one of a vey few that wanted to watch the Rams, and by the way, the Rams game was much better and entertaining then the game they showed which was a blowout. The Rams are a regional team and they still didn’t show them, I understand if the Cowboys are on, but come on give me a little Rams now and then! The Chiefs are bad too, should KOAM stop showing them in favor of better games? Next week the Colts come to St. Louis, that will be a CBS game, the Chiefs play the Chargers so KOAM will show that game instead which I do understand.
